Luxury vinyl planks (LVP) have a more realistic look than standard vinyl sheet flooring. Planks are thicker, too, so they are more comfortable underfoot. All vinyl floor coverings are scratch and stain-resistant. American Rug is a family-owned LVP flooring store that was founded in 1905. Our Holyoke showroom has a large selection of luxury vinyl and other floor coverings. You can browse through samples of flooring from companies like Armstrong, Shaw, Mannington, and Karndean.

Wear layer and more

LVP flooring achieves an authentic wood look with the use of advanced printing and texturing technologies. Some brands mimic stone and ceramic rather than wood. Planks have four layers: base, core, design, and wear. Plank thickness ranges from 2mm to 8mm or more. While overall plank thickness is important, it is the thickness of the wear layer that determines the durability of the floor. The wear layer should be at least 12mil to adequately protect the design layer. 20 mil or more is preferable for high activity areas. The best wear layers have a protective coating. When comparing brands, look for terms like ‘titanium top coating’ or ‘diamond-hardened.’

Waterproof

All sheet vinyl is water-resistant. LVP floors can be either water-resistant or waterproof. Child and pet-friendly waterproof floors provide peace of mind. You can be sure that this floor covering will not be damaged even if it is covered in water for a long period. Waterproof LVP has either a wood-plastic composite core or a stone plastic composite core. High-quality brands include Mannington Adura, Shaw Floorte, Armstrong Pryzm, Mohawk SolidTech, and Karndean Korlok.
